Director of Operations

Opportunity: 

Olive Tree Projects (OTP) and Life Ansanm (LA) are two non-profit organizations, registered in Canada and the United States, that work in the Jacmel area of Haiti.  The two organizations are collaborating together to reach their respective goals, both of which are centered around family preservation.  


Objective: 

Currently seeking an outgoing, organized, dependable people-person to join our team.  The right applicant will be a self-starter and excellent problem solver, have the ability to work independently, and be solid under pressure. Medical background would be a plus, but is not necessary for the individual who is a quick learner and strong leader. This individual will be responsible for all operations of OTP and LA on the ground in Haiti.


Job Description: 

Under the supervision of the General Director, the Director of Operations is accountable for oversight of the office from an administrative, HR and programmatics transactional activities perspective. The position ensures that the hospital, midwifery centers, scholarship and foster care program, and bottle depot are run according to OTP and LA standards and in compliance with related policies and procedures. 

The DOO will lead collaboratively across departments and functions to ensure the systems, processes, people and resources are in place to optimize efficiency and accommodate OTP and LA’s anticipated growth. 


Answerable to:  General Director 


Responsibilities:

Staff management

  • Collaborates with the General Director to create and adhere to policies, procedures and a culture which sustains and strengthens compliance with OTP and LA policies. 
  • Maintain effective and appropriate staff recruitment, induction, and development practice at all levels 
  • Write and update employee contracts when necessary
  • Conduct group and individual staff meetings
  • Work with Director to formulate, implement, and evaluate training needs in collaboration with the clinical director and ensure implementation of training programs for the team as well as other cross-functional members as appropriate
  • Lead and direct the staff in accordance with sound management practices and OTP policies and accountabilities
  • Ensure effective team communication, performance and documentation of affairs activities
  • Collaborate with the General Director to manage the in-country operations and ensure their activities are prioritized to meet the midwifery operations and country objectives

Financials

  • Retrieve money from the bank 
  • Overlook expenses entered by the Office Manager at the end of each month to ensure the expense entered matches the money distributed
  • Receive requests from clinical staff to assist women with extenuating circumstances 

Legalities 

  • Relations with MSPP (Ministry of Health), IBESR (social services), and MENFP (Ministry of Education)
  • Ensure OTP and LA are functioning legally and abiding by all laws and regulations required by Haitian law

Qualifications: 

  • Fluent in French or Kreyol.  Conversational in English. 
  • Education or previous experience in business management, accounting, and human resources, or adequate references of organizational ability and efficiency 
  • Competent using Microsoft Office, Google Docs and Google Drive 
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Good collaboration and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environment and needs
  • Ability to work independently as well as in an interactive environment


Salary commensurate with experience.
